Dear Casting Society Cares,
My name is Daniella Newton and I genuinely love and enjoy all aspects of Theatre, Film and TV and would be delighted to immerse myself in the exciting environment the CSA Training and Education program has to offer for future Casting Directors. Though my experience stems from a theatrically focused background, I have increasingly become more interested in the motion picture industry as I explore its rich history and the impact it’s had on the world. I have always loved films and television, and given the opportunity, I would love to continue to build my knowledge of the casting industry holistically. I could not think of a better way of gaining insight into the Casting of the motion picture industry, and specifically the Los Angeles market, then learning directly from the CSA.
Currently, I am working on my Master’s degree in Theatre Arts at Middlesex University where I’m developing a study in Casting and unpacking the role of The Casting Director. I’ve been using this time to explore this area of the industry in which there is no formal education offered, perhaps even creating a curriculum based on what it takes to become a Casting Director. Motivated by my pursuit in bringing greater recognition and awareness to the Casting Directing role, I also wish to be a part of the continued efforts in focusing on inclusion and potentially curating work that could translate through language barriers, developmental disorders, and other disabled communities. The additional understanding of the film and television industry concerning these issues would greatly influence these studies. Luckily, my course allows me the flexibility to travel where I might gain experience for school credit and heading back to NYC to participate in this pivotal program would be invaluable for furthering my practice and expanding my employability prospects.
My previous casting experience includes interning with Tara Rubin Casting and Roundabout Theatre/Jim Carnahan Casting, as well as interning with Stewart Talent Agency in New York City. I quickly became very familiar with answering phones, editing reels, taping auditions, and fine-tuning resumes/CVs. During my time in London, I have also had the pleasure of shadowing theatre CD, Jane Deitch. In October I was also fortunate to meet with several members of the National Theatre’s casting team, CD, Charlotte Bevan, head of their Creative Diversity Project along with Alastair Coomer and Bryony Jarvis-Taylor from their casting team where we discussed the potential of the professions future.
These experiences and opportunities have all led me to where I am today and I feel confident that my skill set could compliment the workings of your program and fulfill your needs in an exceptional candidate. I would love to be part of your New York City program this summer and look forward to connecting with you!

Many Thanks,
Daniella Newton
